The Tar River runs nearly 200 miles, running southeast through NC, eventually becoming the Pamlico River in Washington, NC before flowing into the Pamlico Sound. The Tar is a slow-moving river, shaded by pine and cypress trees, with cypress swamps along the way. Depending on the time of year, day, and paddling location, you may see a variety of wildlife, including turtles, great blue herons, ospreys, kingfishers, bald eagles, and more!
